Cuban Cultural Escape

19th - 24th February 2022

ACTIVITIES

Let’s go on a journey

Cuba is a mecca for art, music and culture in not only the Caribbean but globally. This six-day journey will immerse you in Cuba’s beating heart of creativity, Havana, and expose you to some of the most interesting people and projects on the island. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by the joie de vivre that characterizes Cuba, with artwork on every corner and jazz and salsa spilling out of cafés onto the lively streets.

DAY 1

PRIVATE CUBAN MUSIC & DANCE PERFORMANCES

Travelling with The Room means exclusive, behind-the-scenes performances with some of Cuba’s top musical talent. Each evening in Havana, enjoy private dance, jazz and musical performances from such names as Alexis Bosch, Cesar Lopez, Emilio Martini, Ruy Lopez-Nussa and Roberto Falla. The exact schedule and names of performers will be confirmed closer to departure.

DAY 2

VINALES VALLEY

Perhaps Cuba’s most picturesque spot is the serene Viñales Valley, a peaceful area of karst cliffs, fertile farmland and traditional communities. The bounty of this land includes tobacco, bananas, sugarcane and coffee, and you’ll get the chance to meet local residents and learn about their life and work. We’ll also enjoy lunch at an organic farm and visit a beautiful orchid garden.

DAY 3

FUSTERLANDIA

Often compared to the wild works of Picasso and Gaudi, Fusterlandia is an ongoing art project located in the town of Jaimanitas. The artist, José Fuster, began painting the streets and buildings as a way to give back to the community and create a place where he could “live with art.” Soon, the town became a hidden wonderland for all to enjoy, making Fuster one of the most celebrated artists in Cuba. It has been said, “if you’re looking for a place that captures the true resilience and spirit of the Cuban people, look no further than Fusterlandia.”

DAY 4

FINCA VIGIA (HEMINGWAY'S FORMER HOME)

For literary enthusiasts, the life of Ernest Hemingway is inextricably linked with Cuba. He made his home here, on and off, between 1939 and 1960, at the hilltop property of Finca Vigía in the Havana neighbourhood of San Francisco de Paula. The house has been kept more or less as he left it, allowing for a fascinating glimpse not only into times gone by but into the life of a literary legend.

DAY 5

Havana

Tour Hemingway’s home. Enjoy your last night of cocktails and jazz with a farewell dinner.

DAY 6

Return Home or Continue to Trinidad & Cienfuegos

Today sadly sees the end of your Cuban adventure. Choose to continue on to colorful Trinidad and Cienfuegos on the optional 3 day/2 night post-trip extension or make your way home. (B)

MESSAGE FROM

Our Founder

I believe that those of us who are privileged enough to be educated, healthy, and part of powerful networks should not be doing easy things. The only way to justify our privilege is to do the hard things that society demands of us — to solve tough problems and create opportunities for others. I launched The Room to bring the most ambitious ‘doers’ together to do these hard things that will change the world. I welcome you to be a part of our story and join this global community as we make history together.
