Pathfinder FAQs

What is The Room?

The Room is a members-only platform to connect innovative professionals to a network of people and opportunities, allowing them to do more for themselves, each other, and the world. Exceptionally talented individuals from around the globe find and share events, networks and resources to co-create a collective where opportunity and talent meet.

What are Members?

Members of The Room are nominated by existing members and represent the most exceptional talent in the world. They have a bold vision for the future and strive to make a difference to their communities, industries, and the world. Members can take their careers and organizations to the next level with the additional guidance and expertise of a “Modern Elder.”

How will a Member be selected for mentorship?

We’ll match you with members based upon your unique preferences, availability, values, personality assessment and experience. The relationship between a member and a Pathfinder is transformational, not transactional, so we are dedicated to pairing you with members who will experience the most impact from working with you—and we feel strongly that you’ll learn from working with them too.

How much time is required to be a Pathfinder?

You will indicate your preferences for the number of hours you feel you can give, your preferred meeting cadence, and how many members you’d like to guide. We want to make sure that you have the space and time to support members closely, and will never try to overwhelm you (or your calendar) with requests or tasks that pull you away from that purpose.

What does The Room provide to help me feel ready to step into the role?

Beginning with an interview to learn more about you and your journey and preferences, we’ll be there to support you every step of the way. Pathfinders receiving onboarding guidance and training to familiarize them with our mission, processes, and technologies. Additionally, Pathfinders are paired with a Junior Pathfinder who provides administrative, technical and logistical support.

Will I meet or work with other Pathfinders?

Our goal is to roll out Pathfinder Initiatives in 20 cities across Africa, as well as in 10 key global cities: New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Beijing, Singapore, Shanghai, and Sao Paulo. In addition to opportunities for virtual community engagement with other Pathfinders, we’ll be forming local chapters to connect in-person.

How does the matching process work?

You get matched once you have gone through the onboarding journey outlined on “The Pathfinder Journey” page. We match you with members based on your unique preferences, availability, values, personality assessment and experience. The relationship between a member and a Pathfinder is transformational, not transactional, so we are dedicated to pairing you with members who will experience the most impact from working with you—and we feel strongly that you’ll learn from working with them too.

Which category of members will I support as a Pathfinder?

You will be asked to support mid-career members of The Room, so they can learn from your wisdom and knowledge and implement it immediately in their professional and personal lives. Should you wish, you can of course also support our young professionals.

How many members do I need to support as a Pathfinder?

You will only manage as many members as your own time permits. You could manage from as little as one member to 20+ members. This is entirely up to you and part of the key questions we will ask when we speak with you and get to know your preferences.

What does a typical engagement look like with a member & how long does the relationship last?

You can ultimately structure your engagement with your member as often or as little as you like. We recommend that you speak to your member once a month for an hour at a time. We start off matching you to a member with a chemistry fit call before you start the engagement which lasts for 6 months. You will have the option to extend the relationship if both sides are interested in continuing with the engagement.

MESSAGE FROM

Our Founder

I believe that those of us who are privileged enough to be educated, healthy, and part of powerful networks should not be doing easy things. The only way to justify our privilege is to do the hard things that society demands of us — to solve tough problems and create opportunities for others. I launched The Room to bring the most ambitious ‘doers’ together to do these hard things that will change the world. I welcome you to be a part of our story and join this global community as we make history together.

Fred Swaniker
