Bestselling author and bold thinker David Brooks has covered business, crime, global affairs and politics over a long and distinguished career in journalism. Having worked at The Washington Times and The Wall Street Journal as Op-ed Editor, he became an op-ed columnist for the New York Times in 2003. He is currently a commentator on The PBS Newshour, NPR’s “All Things Considered” and NBC’s Meet the Press.

Author of Bobos in Paradise, The Social Animal and #1 New York Times bestseller, The Road to Character, his latest book is The Second Mountain: The Quest for a Moral Life, exploring what it takes to lead a meaningful life in a self-centered world. David’s passion for building meaningful connections and finding belonging in a purpose-driven community inspired him to found Weave: The Social Fabric Project at the Aspen Institute. Driven by a mission to weave a rich social fabric amidst societies torn apart by distrust, loneliness, alienation, inequality, racism and spiritual emptiness, Weave seeks to shift our culture from one that values achievement and individual success to one that finds value in deep relationships and community success.

David Brooks will be joining Fred and members of The Room for a special conversation on the power of living a life of interdependence and service to others. Indeed, it is the only life worth living.

MESSAGE FROM

Our Founder

I believe that those of us who are privileged enough to be educated, healthy, and part of powerful networks should not be doing easy things. The only way to justify our privilege is to do the hard things that society demands of us — to solve tough problems and create opportunities for others. I launched The Room to bring the most ambitious ‘doers’ together to do these hard things that will change the world. I welcome you to be a part of our story and join this global community as we make history together.
